Enrico Tommaso De Paris

Flags | 1998

My banners are a symbol of hope, expressing the desire for positive action to address the problems of a world where [...] social, economic and civil inequalities and injustices are growing (and) the urgency arises to accelerate the respect and integration of every possible diversity, prioritising the intense closeness of beings with each other, with nature and with spirituality.

Enrico T. De Paris

Flags was an installation of 150 banners that ran from piazza della Repubblica to the Arsenale della Pace, splitting to follow the two streets to the two squares. The banners are decorated with the cartoonish, Neo-Pop style images typical of Enrico T. De Paris’ figurative language. In the artist’s intentions, the work takes the form of a “map of the possible” in which chaotic worlds and bombs ready to explode are juxtaposed with orbits around the Earth, imaginary urban universes and dwellings paired in ideal dialogue. In the same spirit, animated by a positive will, after the first edition, the artist donated the work to a charity auction.

Enrico T. De Paris (Mel, Belluno, 1960) made his debut in 1990 exhibiting at the Studio of Corrado Levi in Milan, artist and mentor of an entire generation of artists, at the collective Ipotesi Arte Giovane curated by the magazine Flash Art, and at the Galleria Guido Carbone. As one of the exponents of Medialism, De Paris has taken part in several exhibitions in Italy and abroad, pursuing an expressive and iconographic language that, starting from painting, extends beyond the canvas to invest walls and rooms, becoming sculpture, environment, object.
