“Our experience on earth is often defined by a dualism between opposing forces, a situation in which the existence or identity of a thing depends on the coexistence of at least two conditions that are opposed to each other, but dependent on each other and which presuppose each other. It is perhaps in overcoming these categories that we can find growth and evolution both as individuals and as a collectivity, I refer to a field of tension between these polarities that is capable of understanding and overcoming them in a logic of growth and a new vision of the world”.
Starting from this reflection, the artist Patrick Tuttofuoco imagined a form capable of uniting apparently opposing instances - East/West, feminine/masculine, Kali/Dionysus - in a single expressive field, which become the basic material for reflecting on the overcoming of gender boundaries and the demolition of stereotypes, labels and categories, in an attempt to divert attention and light on the identity of the individual, on his essence, and not on his appearance.
The site-specific light intervention, which depicts two faces recalling Hellenistic and Asian cultures, occupies part of the facade of the MAO in Turin, and more precisely the corner whose faces face respectively face east and west, generating also spatially the union between these two polarities.
The work is realised in collaboration and with the support of Wonderglass.
